In 2002, we created a replica of Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest for a local financial institution; the replica was to serve as the Museum of Southern History. The balustrade on the roof, the entablature, the second floor shutters, and various other detailed exterior trims were all created using our polyurethane products and then installed by our experienced team!
In 2005, we assisted the same client in creating an executive office building. This time, the inspiration was the University of Virginia – also a Thomas Jefferson design. The university’s detailed Pavilions II, VIII & X were selected as the façades for the new office building.
With our skilled computer drafting department and our polyurethane products, we were able to provide the level of detail desired for the replicas while eliminating the laborious and poor weathering conditions associated with the original plaster and wooden pavilions!

Details of the Replication Process
Not only did we help re-create the look of these highly detailed entablatures, but we also designed how they would transition from one façade to the next and how they would fasten to the building. With our research of the university, the pictures of various details of the university given to us by our client, and the project blue prints, we were able to establish the height and projection of the entablatures. Our drafting team immaculately designed the entablatures and provided shop drawings to the client, architectural team, and general contractor to illustrate the detailed elevations and sections of how the facades would look, as well as how our polyurethane products would interface with the building. We also created full size ¼" templates that the framer used to accurately construct the eaves that supported the entablatures. The final result was an absolutely beautiful building! One can only imagine what Mr. Jefferson could have created if polyurethane had been at his disposal!
